It’s almost that time again, time to for you to dress up like your favorite super hero and fly around to different houses getting candy. Well, by fly I mean walk and by you I mean your child. As you’re out trick-or-treating with the little ones or if your child is going out on their own, you should tell them to keep these Halloween safety tips in mind.
- Carry glow-sticks (or make glow-stick necklaces) or flashlights so that drivers can easily see you at night.
- Make sure to check all candy before allowing them to eat any. Any opened candy or candy manually wrapped could’ve been tampered with.
- Avoid houses with the front lights off. They usually shut the lights off because they are out of candy or they don’t want to be bothered.
- Does your child have a phone? Some phones allow you to download apps that can help you track where they are. You can visit for more info about the application
- Make sure the costume that they are wearing is safe for walking around in. For example, if they have a cape, make sure it’s not too long or else they could trip on it or someone could step on it while they are walking. Also, if they are wearing a mask, check the mouth hole and make sure that it is big enough that they will be able to breathe properly while the mask is on.
- Never allow them to enter a stranger’s house no matter the cause. No amount of candy is worth risking their safety.
- Trick-or-Treat within your own neighborhood, or one that is safe and familiar.
- Cars come in two directions, so look both ways when crossing the street.
- Some malls now allow you to trick or treat to different stores. This may be a safer alternative to trick-or-treating in some areas.
- Stay clear of others’ pets. Sure that pup maybe friendly when 1 person is petting him but he may become anxious if he is swarmed with kids wearing brightly colored costumes.
- Make sure your child isn’t carrying anything they can use to vandalize property (eggs, toilet paper, silly string etc.). You can end up getting stuck with a property damage bill and an angry neighbor.
